How I Show Myself Love

Updated: Nov 17, 2022

My life was changed the day that I decided to commit to bullet journaling and meditation every single day. Did I miss days at first? Sure I did! Habits don't form instantly. It takes work and effort until it becomes weird not to do it every day--like brushing your teeth or checking your notifications. You are programming and reprogramming your brain to do what's best for your overall health in the long term. I started small and committed to just those two routines. When that became easier, I wanted to see how else I can reprogram my brain. Below are a list of tasks that I do regularly, because it is in my best interest. This is a compiled list of my self-love:

  1. I keep a bullet journal and a brain-dump journal so that the occasional anxious mind doesn't get stuck in mulling over various tasks and responsibilities.

  2. I do yoga then meditate every day. I will never "perfect" the practice. However, consistency is the key to a clear and healthy mind and body.

  3. I drink plenty of water, 1.5-2 liters a day.

  4. I take quiet baths and showers to sort out the day's thoughts BEFORE meditation. This helps me check in with myself to see if all of my needs are being met for that day, and what requires more attention. It helps avoid racing thoughts during meditation.

  5. I moisturize EVERY DAY! First, light exfoliating with a moisturizing body wash. Then moisture cream with ceramides. Cocoa butter on the face and shea butter everywhere else. I put fresh aloe on any bumps or blemishes. I keep it simple and it works for me.

  6. I laugh, compliment, and/or tell someone I love them every day. I receive much of this positivity back from others throughout the day.

  7. I write down any "challenges and gratitudes," and rate my emotional stability each day to put my thoughts and emotions into perspective. This informs my mind of who I should speak to (or not speak to) that day and how to solve problems productively. I review these at the end of the week and month,

  8. I eat fresh fruits and veggies with a protein every day. This Seeker likes ice cream and cake too.

  9. I say my affirmations and give thanks for my privileges every day, sometimes more than once when life gets challenging.

  10. I kindly encourage myself (out loud) to stay consistent if I miss a day, or forget to uphold a core value.

Try to love yourself just a little today. Start with one routine, thought, or exercise, and try to stay consistent. Be kind to yourself if you forget or fail to do something. There's always tomorrow to start anew!
